Plants in medicine
Plants have been used to support health since ancient times. Historians say the earliest evidence of medicinal plants is a 5,000-year-old set of Sumerian stone tablets with 12 recipes for healing remedies. They included pain relievers from the milk of poppies and digestives made from mandrake root, both of which are still widely used today.
Colchicine, for treating gout; ephedrine for allergies; morphine for pain relief; quinine for malaria and dozens of other drugs have been studied for centuries and remain essential in modern medicine. Plant-based solutions are accessible, lower cost and have fewer adverse side effects than man-made chemicals about which we know relatively little.
With advanced methods for extracting organic compounds such as terpenes and cannabinoids from plants, researchers are developing more natural and sustainable therapies for a wide range of applications – from treating chronic pain to combating such serious conditions as cancer, mental illness and addiction.
What makes Nápreva unique is a proprietary concentration and combination of terpenes that’s been used by hundreds of people and dogs primarily to help with chronic pain. They also say it provides relief from insomnia, anxiety and appetite loss.
Combining terpenes in Nápreva, and adding CBD in NáprevaPLUS, creates an entourage effect. Critics say the entourage effect is speculative, but combination therapies or “cocktails” of anti-retrovirals have been key to treating HIV for decades. Oncologists call combination therapies a cornerstone of the war on cancer. Similarly, we use combinations of terpenes to induce synergistic effects.
Like any complex field, the science of natural medicine is ever evolving. What we know today is that the terpenes used in Nápreva are found in dozens of plants in our daily diet. Though the specific ingredients in Nápreva and NáprevaPLUS come from West African black pepper, Japanese cypress, avocado and sage, the same terpenes are found in basil, ginger, hops, ginseng, cinnamon, oregano, mint, lavender and a host of herbs, fruits and vegetables being served right now at tables around the globe.
Cannabis and hemp
Marijuana has sometimes been feared for its intoxicating effects, but modern science as well as human and animal medicine differentiate at least two phytochemicals in hemp plants. Tetrahydrocannabiol (THC) is the agent that causes the “high” causing hemp to be illegal for sale and use in the United States and many other countries.
Cannabidiol (CBD) is non-intoxicating and is believed to have vast medical uses for treating pain, anxiety, seizures, stress, insomnia and myriad serious conditions. Epidiolex®, the first FDA-approved drug containing CBD in the United States, is used to treat two rare forms of “drug resistant” seizure disorder in patients as young as 2 years old. This underscores the importance of natural medicine in a modern world.
Through our innovative product, Black Rock strives to contribute to the growing body of naturopathic product research and development. We also remain grateful to researchers around the world whose critical work ensures that science will triumph over historic biases that have prevented CBD from gaining more widespread support from regulators, legislators and the pharmaceutical industry.
Nápreva is a dietary supplement like vitamins, echinacea, elderberry and a wide range of health products used by millions every day. Like all of the highest-quality products,
Like all other CBD products on the market today except for one, a prescription drug called Epidiolex® used to treat two rare and severe forms of seizure disorder, Nápreva is not FDA approved for use as medicine, so we can’t make claims about its effectiveness. But we can say that hundreds of customers who’ve used Nápreva say they feel better just a few minutes after their first serving. Read what they say!
